WIT and Walmart

Please note:

The Next WIT- Walmart EVENT will be Feb 18th, 2014, 9-5 pm at Javits Center.

The WIT-Walmart Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative, the WIT-Walmart Discussion Panel and the WIT-Walmart PiTCH! took place on February 11, 2013.

Patti Becker, President of Becker Associates LLC, conceptualized and spearheaded the events, and was ably assisted by Patti Saitow, Reisa Schwartzman, Cynthia Hall Domaine, Amy Pennington, Carol Fenster, Stephanie Pottuck, Diane Creston, Genna Rosenberg and others.

It was an exciting day! 54 pitches were made to 11 Walmart buyers over the course of the day in a private room generously provided by the TIA. Specifically there were buyers from the girls, boys, preschool, game and non-toy areas of Walmart.

WIT members who had applied and been approved were encouraged to speed pitch up to five products in a 10-20 minute time frame.  Qualifications included: that the women who pitched must be members of WIT and also be a woman owned business.

Up to $3 million was pledged by an anonymous  donor for products that were accepted by Walmart and needed development money, consulting and licensing services were made available by an industry veteran, factories in HK were willing to help with prototypes, and trade magazines willingly placed stories.

The response was overwhelmingly enthusiastic and positive. One WIT member even flew in for the day for the pitch from Australia to show her game!

Buyers were very clear about what was missing when an item did not reach their criteria. However many items were of interest to Walmart. These items are now being pursued by Walmart.com as well as the appropriate buyers. Additional items have been turned over to other departments.

We are grateful to Laura Philllips, Anne Marie Kehoe, MiKaela Wardlaw Lemmon and the entire Walmart Team for the extraordinary opportunity that Walmart provided. Walmart would like to expand this event in the near future.
